Semester at Sea. It's been my dream for years, and I'm now sitting in my basement packing my bags for this adventure of a life time. It's finally here but it wont hit me until I step foot on the ship.
I spent countless hours fondue-ing and selling Twin lobsta speshal in order to make this trip possible, but that only got me so far. The biggest help came from my amazing parents, who helped me in everyway possible. Also, a big thanks goes to SAS alumni Lindsay Hart for her tips and advice. I would be lost without the three of you!
So what exactly is Semester at Sea?
"Is it a sail boat?" - No. It's 590 feet long and carries just 1000 people on board, 700 of which are students. It's like a cruise ship, just no casinos or towels shaped like ducks.
This is how it works....

Students take class while traveling from port to port and then have complete free time to do what they please in each country.
Im taking 4 class on the ship that will count as a full 16 credit semester.
I'll be at sea with some familiar faces from Emmanuel, so hopefully I won't get to home sick. Now sea sick? That is something that I'll soon find out. But I'm prepared with a good supply of dramamine and much more. Fun fact- I packed just about as much for SAS that I did for Punta Cana- which was a five day vacation. Most of you are probably not suprised.
My flight leaves in about 12 hours from Laguardia in NYC. Tonight my friends from home and my family are coming over to say thier goodbyes. I cried like a bitch when I left Boston on monday night, so I can only imagine what I will be like at the airport tomorrow. I'll be missing a lot of major events while i'm away... My dad's 60th birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the premire of
New Moon (not), and most importantly, Natalie and Mayssa's 21st. I'm sure it will make headlines, and I'll be hearing all about it in Africa. Stay alive ladies, please.
So I'm all set and ready to go. I've watched
Taken, Brokedown Palace, and a few episodes of
Dora the Explorer, so I think I'm pretty prepared for all the "how to's" and "what nots" of travel.
What am I going to miss the most?
-Ketchup. Real Ketchup
-My family and friends, of course
-142 Davis Ave and the ladies who make it home
-Cake Boss, I didn't Know I was Pregnant, and Keeping up with the Kardashians
-Boston, Emmanuel, and believe it or not, working!
I'll be posting my SAS email address as soon as I recieve it so you can get in touch with me. No facebook on the boat! Sort of. I can only go on it every once in a while, but for the most part, my SAS email is the only thing I will be checking frequently. And do not drunk text me! (maysssssa)
Lastly, I'll leave you with the song that has been stuck in my head for several months and will be my anthem for the next 3.5 months. Take a wild guess at what it is...
